At 3,986 feet above sea level, Jinja enjoys a pleasant climate all year long and is only 75 km from the capital, Kampala, and 115 km from Entebbe Airport.
In its heyday, Jinja was the manufacturing capital of East Africa. Today, Jinja is a very well-designed town, best described as “laid-back,” “peaceful,” and “tranquil” by its many international visitors. Jinja is quite simply the perfect getaway town.
Surjio’s Guesthouse is proud to support Amani Baby Cottage, a home in Jinja dedicated to caring for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children from newborn to five years of age.
Established in 2003, Amani Baby Cottage provides a safe, loving and nurturing environment for children who have experienced difficult circumstances. Children are referred to Amani through government welfare officers and may come from families facing temporary crises, or from situations involving abandonment, loss, poverty or abuse.
Amani’s aim goes beyond providing temporary care. The organization works toward finding a safe and permanent family for each child, either through reunification with their birth family or through adoption. According to Amani, more than 460 children have been cared for since its establishment, with more than 400 children successfully placed or reunited with families.
Located in Jinja, near Lake Victoria and the Source of the Nile, Amani Baby Cottage relies on the support of staff, volunteers and donors to provide care for the children.
